The chemical formula for ammonium paratungstate is (NH4)10(W12O41)·5H2O.
Preparation of APT to take in many ways, the main process of preparation methods are:
1. Ammonium tungstate solution as raw material, solvent extraction or ion exchange method first obtained by partial tungstate solution, and then crystallized by evaporation ammonium paratungstate;
2. Sodium tungstate solution as raw material in a solvent extraction method take AMT solution, then crystallized by evaporation ammonium paratungstate.
3. Heat the dissociation APT, and lose some ammonium and water of crystallization, into the water-soluble ammonium paratungstate, and then evaporated to give crystals ammonium paratungstate.
Mainly used in the manufacture of tungsten metal powder like tungsten trioxide or tungsten blue oxide;the downstream products of metallic tungsten powder have tungsten material series, such as tungsten, tungsten and other electric vacuum materials; there are alloy series too, such as tungsten carbide alloy blade, alloy drill, alloy molds, etc.; and other wear, pressure, temperature and other machinery and equipment components.
Appearance: white crystal, shape are two kinds of flake or needle.
Solubility: slightly soluble in water, while 20 ℃ solubility less than 2% in water, insoluble in alcohol. The Ammonium paratungstate will lose some ammonia and water of crystallization when heated to 220-280 ℃, can be converted as ammonium metatungstate. Will lose all crystal water and ammonia when heated to above 600 ℃, into completely yellow tungsten oxide.
There are some particular existence forms of ammonium paratungstate: (1) 3(NH4)2O-7WO3-6H2O ;(2) 5(NH4)2O-12WO3-5H2O; (3) 5(NH4)2O-12WO3-5H2O ;(4) (NH4)2O-12WO3-11H2O .
